happy national day!
yesterday we celebrated national day in school.
(:
it was fun! except the long speech, i mean i respect the speakers, but we get bored real quick by these draggy thingies.
loved all the performances, uh except sec 2s' hehehehe. a bit embarressing but still a little entertaining i guess. xD
went swimming after school, mygawd, nurul was one pain in the rear xD sisters.
got home changed then OUT again for bbq at costa sands. family barbeque. ate loads & mostly, i listened to my grandmother, my uncles, dad and aunt telling stories about their kampung lives.
it was not boring. i envy them, for having gone through such fun.
- they used to catch lizards with tiny nooses on a long, thin stick. xD can you imagine the small (icky) thing hanging on the noose. okay gross la. but we dont do this nowadays.
- they had a little fresh water stream running outside their house, so they had to build a bridge over it. my uncle bragged about how theirs were strongest, lasting through floods. it even had seats & my aunt said they used to sit there and wait for my late grandfather to return home fomr work. and like you could just peep into the water & watch pretty guppies with colourful bottoms, instead of through some lame aquarium glass.
- they used to catch eels in the longkang (drain). :D with a little worm on the end of a string, they would lure the eel out. when the eel bites onto the hook thingy you pull it out and you get an eel easily longer than your arm. so my uncle, dad and aunt would hand it over to my grandmother to goreng (fry). :D cool laa!
- they also used to have this haunted willow tree. honest! even my dad said he saw the ghost on the tree. :\ he never told me such stories. anyway, they killed the tree.
my grandmother has one amazing memory. these wise old ladies contain so much history. :D
she has all sorts of stories. like she knows all about the beginnings of the malay community, and she knows so many facts like all these names.. she can somehow remember. puteri gunung ledang was whose elder sister, who escaped blahdiyblahblahblah. i was amazed.
i really cant express my awe. she talked for hours.
war stories, family stories (which included interesting travelling bits & neverthoughtof complications), kampung life..
nowadays we live so distant from one another. like i pass by my neighbour's house everyday, but we never talk. i mean none of them are outside the house feeding the chicken or ducks or somethingg. or just gardening/ lying around outside the house. ): flats give you flat relationships with neighbours.
i wish zaff never moved. i mean i do like her new condo but if she still lived nearby, we could always do chores together.. talk or visit each other anytime. but it wouldnt be anything like living in a kampung village, just hopping nextdoor and talking on the patio. hmm.
i sound so deprived. ohwell.
i realise that i'd be going for 3 barbeques this week. :D yay me!
